a fleeting love affair set against the ethereal backdrop of Japan's snow-covered mountains
사방이 흰 눈으로 덮여있는 소설의 풍경이 조용하고 고립된 느낌을 주는 가운데, 따뜻함을 기대하는 일종의 도피처럼 일시적으로 지나가는 관계를 보여준다. 이에 더해 섬세하고 시적인 문체가 이루는 전체적인 분위기가, 클리쉐인 비유이긴 하지만, 한 폭의 동양화를 보는 느낌이다.
찰나적인 아름다움을 보여주는 데 있어 지극히 일본적인 미학을 보여주면서도 그것을 위해서 특정 캐릭터가 어쩐지 희생된다는 느낌도 지울 수 없다. 플롯의 중심에 있으면서도 어떤 일이든 본인과 상관 없는 듯 거리를 두는 듯 하는 시마루라의 지극히 관조로운 시선이 너무 한 방향이 아닌가하는 생각도. 본인을 위해 몇날 며칠을 기다리는 이에게, 한번도 직접 경험해본 적 없지만 그저 이론적으로 서양 발레에 관심을 두는 꼭 그 만큼의 의미를 두는 듯한 태도에 대해 어떻다고 하기가 참 애매하다. 무엇을 낭비라 할지.
시간의 흐름에 압도당하지 않기 위해 의식적으로 매 순간 mindfulness를 연습하고 있다는, 지난 주 혹자의 목소리가 생각이 났다.
