[초6~중2] 토요일 원서 수업



토요일 원서 읽기 반에서는

지난 한 달 여에 걸쳐 Andy Weir의 The Martian을 읽고 토론했습니다.

그 전에 다뤘던 Project Hail Mary에 비해서는 비교적 읽기가 수월했다고 하네요.

그 동안 다뤘던 에세이의 주제들은 다음과 같습니다:

Do you think what students learn in school prepares them for real life?

Do you think a person can live a healthy and meaningful life without communicating with anyone else for a long period of time?

If a region has limited water, should it allow companies to build new data centers that require large amounts of water?

Do you think perseverance is more important than intelligence when facing a difficult problem?

Does humanity need a shared problem or common goal to overcome national differences and work together for the good of everyone?

최근 뉴스에서 자주 회자되고 있는 데이터 센터 건설의 문제들이나 세계 강국들의 갈등 문제들과 연관지어 글을 써보고, 그 글에 대해 서로의 의견을 나눌 수 있는 점이 개인적으로도 가장 즐겁습니다.

9월 5일부터 읽게 될 다음 책은 1998년 퓰리처상 수상작인

Jared Diamond의 Guns, Germs, and Steel 입니다.

작년 부터 몇 학생으로부터 추천을 받은 책이었는데 시기상 적절한 듯 보이네요.
