Yuval Harari's <Unstoppable Us>, essay prompts 나눔, 고등/성인 근황
지난 한 달 여에 걸쳐 우리 학생들과 여러 복잡한 감정을 쏟아내며 읽은 <The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane>은 이번 주 토요일(4/13)로 마무리가 됩니다. 그동안 과제와 피드백으로 진행되었던 글쓰기 주제들을 나눕니다. 앞으로 집에서 위 책을 읽거나 다른 기관에서 읽을 때 도움이 되기를 바랍니다.
Think about a time when you felt sad because you lost something special to you. Write a personal narrative about what happened, how you felt, and how you dealt with your emotions.

Write a short essay talking about the ways you and this character are alike and how their adventures have taught you about kindness, love, and growing up.

4월 20일과 4월 22일부터는 베스트셀러 <사피엔스(Sapiens)>로 유명한 역사학자 유발 하라리(Yuval Harari)가 어린이와 청소년을 위해 쓴 첫 번째 책 <Unstoppable Us Vol.1: How Humans Took Over the World>를 같이 읽으며 토론하고 관련 주제들에 대해 글쓰기를 연습할 수 있는 기회를 갖고자 합니다. 인류의 문명과 문화 이야기를 역사적으로 서술하면서도 비교적 재미있고 쉽게 읽혀지는 문체로 쓰였기에, 많은 아이들과 청소년들에게 인문/교양 등 유익한 배경지식을 쌓을 수 있는 기회가 되기를 기대합니다. 원서 읽기에 부담이 많지 않은 초등학교 4학년 ~ 중학교 1학년 학생들에게 권장합니다 (SR 5.0이상). 책의 내용을 바탕으로 해서 직접 제작한 word lists, reading comprehension worksheets, writing prompts, 그에 따른 첨삭이 기본적으로 제공됩니다. 토요일 주 1회, 혹은 월요일 주 1회 수업 중 선택하실 수 있습니다.
고등학생:
대전외고 공통영어/심화영어 내신관리 수업을 토요일 진행 중입니다.
해외 대학 입학을 목표로 토플을 준비하는 수업을 진행중입니다.
성인:
올 여름 체코에서 열리는 교육 관련 해외학술대회에 참여하게 되신 박사 과정생과 영문 발표를 준비중입니다.
똑같아 보이는 일상에 활기를 찾는 목적으로 원서 읽기를 시작한 직장인과 수업 중입니다.
유학 준비 과정을 중간에 조금 도와드렸던 한 공무원 분이 국외연계 과정으로 영국 London School of Economics의 석사 과정에 합격하셨습니다. 도전하는 이들에게 기회가 주어진다는 클리쉐는 분명 이유있는 클리쉐인 듯 합니다. 학생들 뿐 아니라 새로운 것에 도전하여 각자의 지경을 넓히고, 개인과 가족뿐 아니라 타인에게 도움이 되려는 모든 직장인/공무원을 응원합니다-
