주 1회 원어 수업입니다.
지난 한 달여 간에 걸쳐 같이 읽고 토론하며 삶의 중요한 교훈을 주었던 <The Little Prince>가 이번 주 토요일 수업으로 마무리됩니다. 다음 주 토요일 (11/25) 부터는 새 책 <Mr. Popper’s Penguins>가 진행됩니다.
어느날 갑자기 펭귄을 선물로 받게 되면서 삶에 긴장간 넘치는 변화들로 가득하게 되는 미스터 파퍼의 이야기입니다. 펭귄이 점점 늘어나면서 재미있는 모험과 예상치 못한 도전, 그리고 따뜻한 순간들을 경험하는 그의 이야기를 읽으며 학생들의 상상력과 창의력을 자극하고 공감대를 형성할 수 있는 좋은 기회가 될 것입니다.
마침 남극의 추운 분위기와 펭귄에 관한 스토리가 마침 겨울을 맞닥뜨린 학생들의 몰입감과 재미를 높여주지 않을까 합니다. 따뜻함을 바라는 느낌 등과 관련하여 겨울의 경험과 스토리 전개에 공감하기 쉬울 것 같습니다. 1939년 뉴베리 문학상 수상작으로 문학적 가치 역시 높은 고전으로 평해집니다.
원어로 진행되며 Reading comprehension questions을 통한 대화식 수업입니다. 또한 학생들의 수준과 수업의 흐름에 따라 다음 중 적절한 글쓰기 주제를 선별하여 진행합니다. 매주 토요일 4시 수업이며 숙제양이 많지 않아 부담없이 참여하기에 좋은 수업입니다. 초등학교 3~6학년 학생들에게 권장합니다.
Imagine you've received a penguin as a gift, just like Mr. Popper. Describe your first reactions and the adventures that unfold as more penguins join your household. What challenges do you face, and how do you handle them?
Choose one of the penguins from the story and write a character profile detailing its personality, likes, dislikes, and unique habits. Create a short story from the penguin's perspective about its favorite adventure with Mr. Popper.
Transport the story into the present day. How would Mr. Popper and the penguins navigate the challenges of technology, social media, and the modern world? Write a scene or a short story highlighting these adjustments.
Write a story about another unexpected animal gift that arrives at Mr. Popper's doorstep instead of a penguin. How does this new animal shake up Mr. Popper's life, and what adventures ensue?
Set the story in a different environment, such as a tropical island or a bustling city. How do the penguins adapt to this new setting, and how does Mr. Popper manage their presence in an entirely different context?
Write a series of letters between Mr. Popper and a friend or family member who lives far away. Discuss the challenges and joys of having a household full of penguins. How does Mr. Popper's life change, and what advice does he seek?
Rewrite the ending of the story. What if Mr. Popper didn't end up having penguins? How would his life have turned out, and what adventures would he have embarked upon instead?
