최근 몇 달 동안 세계사 원서 시간에 써왔던 에세이 주제를 공유합니다.
역사서를 읽는 동안 관련된 주제에 대한 에세이를 그동안 과제로 내주어왔다.
그런데 최근 몇 달 간은 역사와 연관된 최근의 세계 정세에 대해서 확장해 나가는 중이다.
한참 뉴스에서 나오고 있는 주제이기에 학생들도 현재의 본인들과 더 연관성을 갖고,
기본적인 컨텍스트와 아웃라인을 주니, 전에 비해 더 성의있게 글을 쓰는 것을 실감하는 중이다.
지금 이 순간 지구상의 한 켠에서 일어나고 있는 사건들이나 활발히 토론되고 있는 주제들에 대해,
학생들이 생각해보게 하고 글을 써보고, 다른 학생들과 나누는 자리가 또 될 수 있어
특히 의미있고 보람됨을 느끼는 수업 중 하나이다.
Do you think people sometimes turn to strong rulers or dictators during times of trouble? Why or why not? 사람들은 어려운 시기에 강력한 지도자나 독재자에게 의존하게 되는 경우가 있다고 생각하는가?
What is the main motive behind the current war between Russia and Ukraine: reclaiming historical land and identity, or gaining modern political power and influence? 러시아-우크라이나 전쟁의 주요 원인은 무엇인가? 과거의 영토와 정체성을 되찾으려는 것인가, 아니면 현대의 정치적 권력과 영향력을 얻기 위한 것인가?
Should Iran be allowed to continue developing nuclear technology for energy, or should other countries limit its program to prevent possible nuclear weapons? 이란이 에너지를 위한 핵 기술을 계속 개발하도록 허용해야 할까, 아니면 핵무기 개발 가능성을 막기 위해 다른 나라들이 그 프로그램을 제한해야 할까?
Do you think the institution of royalty still has a place in modern society, or is it an outdated tradition that should be ended? 오늘날 사회에서 왕실 제도가 여전히 필요한가, 아니면 이제는 사라져야 할 오래된 전통인가?
Do new technologies make wars more dangerous, or do they help control wars better? 새로운 기술은 전쟁을 더 위험하게 만들까, 아니면 전쟁을 더 잘 통제하는 데 도움이 될까?

Should other countries continue to work with Russia in international organizations, or should they isolate it because of its actions? Should countries always follow the rules of war, even if breaking them might help them win faster? 전쟁에서 더 빨리 승리할 수 있다 하더라도, 항상 전쟁의 규칙을 지켜야 할까?
